Character Evolution Interview/Article

Kelley Locke assembled this report card on each of the main characters and season 3 itself. The article isn't very long but it provides a great jumping off point for discussing the evolution of each character up to this point and going into season 4.

And for fun, take this test!

Happy 4th of July to all my fellow Americans!

I agree with you completely on Jeff. If anything season three about 'about' Jeff's growth, specifically. I think they did a great job of demonstrating his growth in the way he relates to people, in his honesty and in his willingness to right his wrongs (like apologizing to Kim's locker).

I have a little trouble with the idea that Annie should be a lawyer. I think she would be great at it, but I love that Annie knows what she wants and is going about getting it. I also think Health Care Administration is perfect for her, because of her inherent need to help people and her OCD/Control freak tendencies. It's kind of a perfect fit.

I think we should just face facts: no matter what Annie does, she'll be amazing at it.

Unless it requires excessive loosey-gooseyness. She'd probably suck at that.

I have a bit of an issue with her logic in some places. First, you can't say about Jeff: "It's time for some growth" and then list all of the various ways that he has demonstrably grown, and then act like none of it matters because he didn't 'grow' in the one area that you would prefer.

Same goes for Annie. Saying that she should grow/change more and then listing all of the many ways that she's actively tried to grow and change, all of the different hats she's tried on, and then saying it's not 'actual' growth. It's weird.

I also disagree with the idea that Britta is standing outside the group as an observer now that she's commenting on what's going on. Every character comments on what's going on, it's part of the 'metaness' of the show. She's just doing it in a more specific way than, "Hey, this is like that time we .... "

Anyway. I don't disagree with all of it, and I particularly loved her little piece about Troy, who really owned season three, but I just can't get on board with her declarations about characters followed by all of the things that prove her wrong. It's a weird way to make a point.
