The first shot has been fired - the Fic Battle will now begin! Full rules and guidelines here (please note the sign-up addition and the last prompt deadline edit), but the quick version is here:

1) Author A replies to this entry with their writing preferences (from here) to start their thread. Minor changes are allowed to preferences, if needed.
2) Prompter 1 replies to Author A's thread with a prompt
3) Author A fills said prompt with at least 300 words of fic and posts it in a reply to Prompter 1's comment.
4) Author A moves on to Prompter 2.
5) Prompter 1 may now give Author A another prompt if they so choose, continuing on until prompts close on Thursday, June 21st at 10am EST (7am PST).
6) Authors have until Thursday, June 21st at 12pm EST (9am PST) to post their fills.

The author with the MOST fills will be the Winner! Any author who fills EVERY prompt they receive will be a Survivor!

A few additional notes:
** The length of the battle is for two reasons: A) varying free time for writing (a work-a-day writer or a weekender), and B) varying writing speeds (a tortoise or a hare).
** As the battle goes on, try to spread your prompts among the authors. If you see an author who has completed all their prompts and there's plenty of time to the end of the battle, help them out!
** No ideas for prompts? Use resources like unfilled prompts at various comment fic memes and fests (even other fandoms which could be adapted), or random story idea generators.
** Anonymous comments are screened for the duration of the battle. Please prompt logged in.

Questions? See the first comment thread below.

GOOD LUCK, ALL!

CEASE FIRE! The battle is now over! No fills posted past 12:00pm EST will count toward the final totals. Masterpost with winners, survivors and breakdown will go up by tomorrow at noon.

Authors may continue to fill their prompts, just for fun, if they wish! And prompters, please continue to feedback. :)

Jeff and Shirley use their combined powers for either good or evil.

The Other Cheek | G | 732 Words

"Jeffrey, could I talk to you for a moment?" Shirley said in her most syrupy tone.

Jeff knew that could only mean one thing, she wanted a favor, and she was anticipating having to talk him into it. Not that she needed to, he'd found that hanging out with Shirley, as long as it didn't involve her church, was always fun, and it meant that he could ask her to do things like go with him to a chick flick.

Shirley waited for more of the study group to filter out before continuing, "Jeffrey, you know that first study group that I was part of? The one that called me Tattlelina? Well, they keep going to my store and using up all the coffee stirrers while giving me dirty looks. They don't even buy anything! Now, you're the only one who knows about them, except for Britta, and she'd tell me some hippie thing about turning the other cheek, so I need your help for revenge."

"Isn't turning the other cheek a Christian thing?"

"Oh whatever. I know there's got to be something that I can use against them in their files. I need you to help me distract the Dean while I go through them," Shirley said in her brisk no-nonsense way, "or do I have to remind you that you owe me after dragging me to that Snow White movie?"

Jeff pretended to consider, "I'll do it."

"That's nice," Shirley beamed, "meet me tomorrow at noon. Wear your tightest shirt."

---

Jeff, good to his word, arrived in the requested shirt. Shirley walked up to him, unbuttoned another button, paused, and then undid another one.

"All right," she said, smoothing his collar out, "do we need to go over the plan again, or did you understand the email I sent last night?"

"I've got it under control," Jeff replied, patting the pocket where he kept his aviators. He wasn't thrilled about being used as bait, but he'd seen how Shirley's former study group treated her, and they needed to be knocked down a peg.

---

An hour later, after some light flirtation, a moderate amount of singing, and a successful deployment of his sunglasses, Jeff received the signal from Shirley that she had got what she wanted: two blank texts right after each other, a twenty second pause, and then another one. He dashed out of the Dean's office, muttering an excuse, to the Dean's extremely visible disappointment, and was on his way back to the study room, when he was suddenly pulled into an empty classroom.

Shirley was smiling like the cat that got the cream, holding a thick sheaf of letters in her hands. "It's even better than I expected!," she crowed. "Sharon, she's the head of the group, wrote all of these love letters to Duncan! They were having an affair!"

"Let me see," Jeff asked, her gleeful mood infecting his. This was absolutely priceless. He remembered Duncan asking about what the legal definition of stalking was before he went on his 'sabbatical', but he'd never gotten the full story out of him.

She handed them over, and he quickly scanned the first page. "What are you going to do with these? Send out fliers, email them to everybody, read them over the PA?" he asked. They were even more stomach churning than he could have imagined. He wondered why the Dean had them in the first place.

"Nothing like that. I'm just going to keep them, and whenever I see her, I'm going to know in my heart that I'm a better person than her," she replied.

"How's that going to help with the stealing problem?" Jeff asked, still flipping through the pages.

"Oh I'm going to decorate the creamer bowl with a choice sentence from one of these, so she knows I know. I think the shame will keep her away."

"Shirley, that's not nice," he said, impressed by her deviousness and making sure to look down so she wouldn't see him smile.

"Jeffrey," she said sharply, about to launch into a defense, when she saw his shit-eating grin. She paused, then continued, "come on, if we hurry, we should be able to make it to the Avengers for the 2:40 showing." Jeff looped his arm through hers and then followed her out into the bright parking lot, quoting from the letters as they went.

Oh, I love how it's both good and evil! They've still got it, even though they don't always flaunt it. ;) I especially liked Shirley undoing Jeff's buttons and the thought of the two of them seeing movies together.
